Piazza Armerina is a nice city, where live about 20.000 inhabitants (2008). It was founded by Arabs in the Xth century.
A few kilometers far, is the ancient Roman villa del Casale, splendid villa rich of mosaics pavements, registered to the world heritage of UNESCO.

The Roman villa would date from the beginning of the IVth century AC, under the reign of Diocletian and Maximian.
It is very vast (more than 3500 m^2) and is almost entirely paved with polychrome mosaics.
